Macconkey agar is crystal violet solution,is neutral red solution.MacConkey agar is uesed for isolation and culture of intestinal bacteria and the identification of non-fermenting bacteria.It contains Bile salts (to INHIBIT most Gram-positive bacteria,some species and except Enterococcus of Staphylococcus ie Staphylococcus aureus), Crystal Violet Dye (which also inhibits certain Gram-positive bacteria).
